Diana Reflecting about Life along the Brule River

Diana Reflecting about Life along the Brule River

Well, readers, I may have stretched the truth regarding  this title.  Loneliness may not be a gift but spending time alone can be very benefitial.  For us extroverts, this solitude time can be very difficult or even seem impossible.  Even a dysfunctional relationship in which someone else is in the house, may seem preferable.  We avoid being alone at all costs.  This is a good time to take part in the Divorce Recovery’s social groups but stay away from any opposite gender, one-on-one activities.

During this stage, impulsive relationships are so often encountered in the form of “rebounding” relationships — a destructive “fix” of avoiding this stage in healing.  We think that it is too hard to spend time alone when the world seems to be moving on without us, and it really feels good to have one individual fill our free time.

This stage is, however, a gift and should be viewed as the same.  God gives it to us as a time of reflecting on Him and waiting for Him to act.  But, you ask, “for how long must I remain in this lonely place?”  God is very wise.  He acts when circumstances are right and when He knows we have established a new habit of spending time with Him.

Author, Ben Franklin enlists these reasons for cherishing the alone stage of healing:

  • “God gives us very clear direction only when we wait to receive it.
  • God uses waiting time to get us in step with Him because our decisions affect other people.
  • God uses waiting time to prepare us for the answer.
  • God uses waiting time to build our faith.”

As I was putting this blog together, it hit me how lonely God must feel when we busy ourselves with solving  our own problems and organizing our lives without stopping and discussing our intended directions with Him.

Remember: “Delight thyself also in the Lord; and He shall give thee the desires of thine heart.” (Scofield Bible, Psalms 37:4)

The Message Bible translation states as such: “Keep company with God, get in on the best.  Open up before God, keep nothing back, He’ll do whatever needs to be done.”  It goes on to say, “He’ll validate your life in the clear light of day and stamp you with approval at high noon.” (Messenger Bible Translation Ps 37:4-6)

 Think about it.  God Bless.
